Cube Saunas
Ula L Ebony. The dark architectural cube.
The Ula L specified in Shou Sugi Ban charred timber, the same 5–6 person capacity in an architectural black finish.
Overview
Ula L Cube Sauna, Ebony.
The Ula L Ebony is the Ula L specified in Shou Sugi Ban charred spruce, same 5–6 person capacity, same insulated construction, same Harvia 9kW heater, but the exterior is deep matte black instead of warm honey beige.
This is the spec we recommend for design-led garden schemes: pale stone patios, contemporary landscaping, dark-framed garden rooms. The charred exterior anchors the garden rather than sitting into it.
The Shou Sugi Ban is a genuine 400-year-old Japanese timber-preservation technique done properly with propane flame and Danish oil. The carbonised surface is the preservative, it can't chip or peel like paint.

Living with it
How it actually works day to day.
The charred timber is the preservative, no annual paint refresh, no peeling, no fading to a muddy grey. Re-oil every 3–4 seasons if you want to preserve the deep matte black; leave it and let it silver to graphite if you prefer.
Against pale stone or render, the ebony reads as a piece of sculpture. Against dark timber cladding or a dark garden room, it disappears into a considered architectural composition.
Interior spec is identical to the beige, hemlock throughout, twin-tier benches, 9kW Harvia. The choice between beige and ebony is purely aesthetic.

Best for
Who typically buys this one.
- Contemporary and architectural garden schemes
- Pale-stone or pale-render properties where the ebony reads as sculpture
- Design-led new-builds and renovations
- Owners wanting a maintenance-friendly finish (Shou Sugi Ban needs less than paint)
